The Moral Perfection of Jesus Christ

The Lord Jesus Christ is the very foundation of the Christian faith. “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1. Cor. 3:11). We all understand that a building will stand or fall depending on its foundation. It is no wonder then that Satan has so vehemently attacked the person of Christ down through the centuries. The world has a never ending stream of blasphemous suggestions concerning the character and conduct of Jesus Christ. As believers, it is imperative that we consistently remind ourselves about who Christ is and in so doing, firm up the foundation of our faith. The Word of God furnishes the child of God with a treasure trove of truth concerning the Person of Christ. For the purpose of this devotion, lets consider the moral perfection (the holiness) of Christ. I. John 3:5 says, “…in him is no sin.” Isn’t that a majestic statement! As sinful people, we are only too conscious of the downward drag of a sinful nature. Not so with Christ, his total Person was and is free of any trace of sinful desire or tendency. I. Peter 1:19 tells us that Christ is the Lamb “without blemish and without spot.” In the Old Testament, the sacrificial lambs had to be carefully checked to ensure that they were free of imperfections. This was a type of Christ the Lamb, who would be free of any stain or blemish of sin. Referring to His relationship with the Father, Christ could say of himself “I do always those things that please him” (John 8:29). Christ could boldly challenge the Pharisees with the question, “Which of you convinceth me of sin?” (Jn. 8:46).
