Separated by His Presence

One of the almost forgotten doctrines of Scripture is the doctrine of separation. As mentioned in a previous devotion, there are so many aspects to each doctrine in Scripture. There is a positional aspect to the doctrine of separation (that which God has done on our behalf). When we were saved, God mercifully snatched us out of the grasp of Satan and his kingdom of darkness and placed us into the kingdom of the dear Son of God (Col. 1:12-13). We were separated forever from this evil world and nothing can ever change that. I love what God said of the nation of Israel in Leviticus 20:26 as there is such a direct parallel with how God views the New Testament saint – “And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine.” (See also 1. Peter 2:9). There is also a practical aspect to our separation as believers (that which is our responsibility before God and involves an act of our will). In this devotion, I would like to draw our attention to another facet of our separation that we might not have considered much before. It is found in Exodus 33:16 – “For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? Is it not that thou goest with us? So shall we be separated, I and thy people from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.” This verse forms part of a heart felt plea on the part of Moses for God to bless His people with His manifest presence as they … Continue reading Separated by His Presence
